Canadian Diamonds Story
An incredible beauty shines brightly in the Canadian arctic. Diamonds exquisitely pure and clean. Canada's diamond mines are the first producing diamond mines in North America. Located 200 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories.
Diamonds symbolize happiness and eternal love. Sadly for many, they mean conflict, misery and poverty. In African countries such as Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone, the profits from unregulated diamond trade are used to obtain weapons and fund armed conflicts. Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, mutilated or abducted.
The Canadian diamond is a clear alternative to conflict African diamonds. Proof of the diamond's origin is essential to ensure your diamond has not contributed to human rights abuses. Canadian diamonds are the only diamonds in the world monitored from the mine throughout the manufacturing process.
Certified Canadian diamonds are accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Government of the North West Territories (GNWT) guaranteeing its Canadian origin.
A government seal with the GNWT's official polar bear insignia adorns the certificate. The certificate states that the accompanying diamond has met the high standards outlined by the GNWT Certification Program including a Gemprint image of the diamond. A Gemprint image is the world's most sophisticated, non-invasive diamond identification system which uses a computer to scan an image, or "fingerprint" of the diamond. Each diamond has its own distinctive characteristics. This provides yet another level of authenticity that the diamond is truly Canadian.
